Gov. Granholm announces mental health commission to be appointed

Governor Granholm announced July 22, 2003 that she will appoint a special commission to examine the state’s mental health system and make recommendations for improving it.  The Governor is convinced that the system is broken and that many Michigan residents are suffering needlessly as a result.  MACED urged then Governor-elect Granholm during the gubernatorial transition to appoint such a commission  that would focus on children with emotional disorders as well as adults with mental illness.  See the Detroit News series on the broken mental health system July 20-22 and August 8, 2003 at:  http://www.detnews.com/specialreports/2003/mentalhealth/

The Kalamazoo and Southfield offices would appreciate hearing from MACED members interested in serving or recommendations for potential candidates.
