One of the most critical issues in society today is the shameful shift of children suffering from emotional disorders from the mental health system to the juvenile justice system.

For the past several years MACED, in association with volunteers has assisted with cases of children with emotional disorders charged with offences in the juvenile justice system

MACED is currently in the developmental stages of a new children’s advocacy project in honor of the late Harry J. Nederlander.

The Association is always looking for new ways to improve the mental healthcare system for children and we welcome your suggestions for new programs.

~ 285,534 Children have a serious emotional disorder - only 31,000 children are treated in the public mental health system - private sector insurance does not fill the gap.

~ In 1985, 22% of the mental health budget was spent on children. Today, that number is only 6%-even though children comprise one-fifth of the caseload.
